Bhimtal is an ancient and beauty oriented place. History of Bhimtal does a reversal to the season of Mahabharat. The name of this spot itself  begin from name of one of the holy people 'Bhima' and Bhimeshwar mahadev temple is located near the lake. There are a lot of sightseeing places other than temples. Tourist and nearby people visit Bhimtal in their vacation and enjoy boating here.It comes under Nainital district and 22 km far from Nainital. Naukuchiyatal, Sattal, Bhowali, and Ghorakhal temple are some other attractions near Bhimtal. It is situated at an altitude of 1370 m above sea level. Bhimtal have some major attraction point which attract people towards itself. Beside tourism, Bhimtal has also now become a mini district head quarters, since most of the district administration offices have been shifed here.

1- Bhimtal Lake-


It is the largest lake in kumoun region of uttrakhand. It has an island in the center move toward just by a watercraft and at present it has an Aquarium there. A gaggle of ducks has made the lake their home and give company to the visitors. You can enjoy boating here also.

2-Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple


It is an old Shiva temple named after 'Bhima' of Mahabharat situated at the bank of Bhimtal lake. It is believed that it had been built when Bhima visited this place during vanvaas period of Pandavas.

3- Butterfly Research Centre-



The butterfly research centre is situated near the Bhimtal lake and house of the fourth largest butterfly and moth reference collection in India. It have 150 year ancient bungalow in the jones estate of the approximately  1300 species of butterflies to be found in India. It is good sightseeing place for visitors.

4- Hanuman Garhi-




It is a famous holy place and has a huge statue of Lord Hanuman. Surrounding scenery is mind blowing. Great view of Bhimtal can be seen from this place. Youngsters and seniour citizens will like this place much. You can click pictures as surrounding of this beautiful temple. Many shops of daily goods are accessible here.

5- Hidimba Parvat-



Hidimba Parvat is a sumptuous green region arranged at a decent division of 5 km from Bhimtal. The hillock has been named after an underhanded called 'Hidimba' the life partner of Bhima one of the Pandavas siblings from the well known amazing story called Mahabharat.

6- Karkotak Temple-



Every year a small fair organized in karkotak temple on the day of shiv ratri and on nag panchami, the thousand of devotes visit and worship in the temple.  It is very likely that one gets an inclination contemplate in these peaks. Simply imagine yourself sitting on the nag fun (snake head) and mediating like a boss.

7- Folk Culture Museum-



The museum has an Art gallery housing over three hundred paintings and a rich library. This is so beautiful and sensitively executed water colors on local folk life and the unsurpassed beauty of the surrounding Himalayas. The most striking are the paintings done by Mathpal and Ndash. Many of which portray scenes from daily life of Kumaun.



No doubt that Bhimtal have many worth sightseeing places which make it more beautiful tourist destination. Visitors can enjoy boating in the Kumaun's largest lake which have a beautiful island located in the middle of it.There are many religious temples which attracts visitors towards itself. Bhimeshwar mahadev temple, hanuman garhi and some other famous sanctuaries are located in near Bhimtal lake and these are easy to reach. For science lovers, butterfly research center is also located here. Other than this more beautiful and picturesque spots are nearby like Nainital, Sattal, Naukuchiatal, famous Ghorakhal temple, which is visited by a no. of tourists and make their trip more worthful. All places are easy to accessible by road,  nearest railway station is Kathgodam. Favorable time to visit Bhimtal in summers (april to june) and in winteres (October to January)  but visitors can visit here any time.
